As the meaning of a hadith is, the Prophet (PBUH) said on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage:" Verily there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab or of a non-Arab over an Arab, or of a red man over a black man, or of a black man over a red man, except in terms of taqwa. So, Ihram is like a big equalizer—no pride, no showing off."

Men cannot wear stitched clothes, underwear, hats or caps. This is the rule. It makes you feel humble as if you were nothing without Allah. Step 1: Perform Ghusl (Ritual Bath)

Before entering the Ihram, taking Ghusl, a unique bath for cleaning the body and soul, is good. It is not a must, but very recommended, especially for women who are menstruating or have just given birth. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Cleanliness is half of faith." (Sahih Muslim 223).

Step 2: Wear Ihram Clothing

After Ghusl, wear Ihram clothes before reaching Miqat (the boundary where Ihram starts). Men wear two unstitched white sheets, and women can wear modest clothes like hijab, abaya or another dress code. Make sure clothes are clean and no perfume or scent.

Niyyah is very important. In your heart or with your words, say you are entering Ihram for Umrah.‘Umar bin Al Khattab reported the Prophet (PBUH) as saying “Actions are to be judged only by intentions and a man will have only what he intended.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 2201). Step 4: Recite the Talbiyah

After Niyyah, recite Talbiyah: "Labbayk Allahumma labbayk, labbayka la sharika laka labbayk, innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika lak." It means: "Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Surely, all praise, grace, and dominion belong to You. You have no partner." Say this many times during the pilgrimage to remind yourself of your devotion to Allah.
